Getting Started
***SOME PARTS NEED REVISING***
Getting up and running (short description)
For those of you who want to get started, and do it in their own style:
- Of course, choose a race (Minotaurs and Wood Elves are easy races to play), and a uni (Uno is and excellent choice for new players as kingdoms can only attack you once from above your score. A wonderful way to learn the game is to use the test server.
- It is absolutely critical that you establish a burgeoning economy. Without gold you cannot build or defend your land. Market Places and Coliseums make provide gold revenue. Market Places however provide more gold so you want to start building them first.
- Build Market Places until you don't have enough gold to do so. Keep in mind that you are not building whole Market Places, but parts of one. 30 parts = a whole one. When i say build a "this" i mean build a part of this.
- When you are out of gold, search for land until you have enough to build another Market Place (10k gold)
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you you have built 16 Market Place pieces. Your current population are now all employed within Market Places.
- Now it is time to build enough Coliseum pices to employ your population (12 parts). If you run out of gold, search for land until you have enough gold.
- The strategy going forward is to alternate building Villages, Market Places and Coliseums. You basically want to always have your population working within Market Places and Coliseums. Use the Build or Destroy screen continuosly to see how many population can work in your Market Places and Coliseums to let you know when to build more of them. After you have four completed Villages (60 pieces), one full Market Place (30 pieces) and 23 Coliseum pieces you will be making as much money as you can with your first 10k population. Remember, whole buildings are much more effective than parts of a building. their effectiveness follows a curve as they approach a complete building.
- build some more Barracks and according to your race, build up a decent defense.
- Now, save Turns til you have about 100 and experiment. ask questions. start more kds and try them out. try different Races etc.
remember, make new kds, and try different things. Look through the help resources before asking a question in GM (SM chat can be a good place to ask questions sometimes. if no responds, type in /moo). If you do ask a question in GM don't expect an instant response. it may take a day before you get ur answer. Shadowmere is a great game, and one worth learning.
First 200 turns (alternate description)
(taken from FAQ)
- Save until you have 200 turns (this is the max you can save).
- Then proceed to build 16 parts market places, then 12 parts coliseums.
- After you finish this start to build villages (and check to see if you can hire enough Laborers to build 2 village parts/turn).
- Match your Population with marketplaces and cols. This will maximize your early game income. No race should end with less than 20k population 1 full market place (30 land) and col for all your population (32 land). Many races can actually do much more than this, but the races with bad building ability and exploration should never come out with less than this as your economy early game.
- There are many Stratgies to use during your first 200 turns, With some races you can destroy your 35 of your starting Granaries, your Armories and Vaults.
- though it seems bad to destory buildings from the start, it can actualy benefit you by saving you turns searching for land. * Also a lot of shadomere involves the utilization of your land. if you can utilize your land good you can run a sussecful kd with very few drawbacks.
- your ability to make alot of gold per turn is one of the most important things within the game.
- You can alo use the spell aphrodisia to boost your moral effectively increasing your gold gained per turn.
- Never "waste" turns during the first 200 turns, Dont search for maps unless you plan on looking for an ally or attacking someone. Dont search the unknown, its relaively pointless early on.
- You may choose to sell items on the open market, but this may decrease your defenses as most players are trying to either build as much defense as posable or make the biggest attacking force they can during the first 200 turns.
- Also another thing to rember is that Outposts are one of the key points to success.
- before staring a new kd, go tot the test server and try a kd there figure out what you like and then plan your first 200 turns before you move so that youll have a good assesment of what to do.
